Why You Need Omega-3

Updated: Nov 4, 2022

You've probably heard people talking about Omega-3. From doctors to bloggers, more and more people are touting the benefits of these fatty acids. Not sure what the hype is about?

Here's a quick rundown on Omega-3.

Don't be scared of the "fat" in Omega-3 fatty acids.

Lots of us panic at the mention of the word "fat" in our diets, but fats can actually be beneficial—even crucial—to your overall health. Omega-3 fatty acids fall in that category. Far from wanting to avoid them, you'll want to make sure you have enough!

Omega-3 is important to your health.

There's still a great deal of research being done on Omega-3 fatty acids and their role in human health, but we do know that they're important to brain and heart health. If you enjoy your brain and your heart, you'll probably want to make sure you're supporting them with Omega-3 fatty acids.

Your body can't synthesize Omega-3 fatty acids.

Mammals are good at a lot of things, but making our own Omega-3 fatty acids isn't one of them. You'll have to look at outside sources for your Omega-3, like your diet. Fish are a good source of Omega-3, as are some other seafoods like algae. Not a fan of seafood? Consider an Omega-3 supplement!
