“So don’t worry about whether you like your situation or not. Life doesn’t give a damn about what you like. It’s up to you to connect what you want with what you need to do to get it, and then to find the courage to carry it through.” ~Ray Dalio
This quote from Ray Dalio feels pretty harsh, but if you break it down you see the power in the principles he is teaching.
Don’t waste time or energy in self-pity, because self-pity is actually self-destructive.
Acknowledge what reality is now, and what you want it to be in your immediate future.
Now consider carefully what knowledge and skills you will need to acquire, and what actions you need to take, to go from your current reality to your desired reality.
Find the courage to follow through. However, we know that you don’t “find” courage—you build it!
By consistently acting on your plan to gain the necessary knowledge and skills, and to take the necessary actions, you will be exercising your self-control and growing your self-respect. You will build all the courage you need to change your reality.
